What Is Akathisia Borderline Personality Disorder

What Is Akathisia Borderline Personality Disorder BPD Treatment Print Akathisia and Borderline Personality Disorder By Kristalyn Salters-Pedneault, PhD Kristalyn Salters-Pedneault, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and associate professor of psychology at Eastern Connecticut State University. Learn about our editorial policy Kristalyn Salters-Pedneault, PhD Updated on August 12, 2019 Mixmike / Getty Images More in BPD Treatment Diagnosis Living With BPD Related Conditions Akathisia is a common side effect of antipsychotic and antidepressant medications used to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD). Its main symptoms are extreme restlessness and discomfort. If you have akathisia, you may feel compelled to move, particularly your legs. It will cause you to constantly want to fidget or shift from one leg to the other.  While it may sound harmless, akathisia can be very irritating and can cause people with BPD to discontinue their medicine. Its important to recognize the symptoms of this side effect and talk to your doctor about them to get the best medicine for your situation.   Causes Scientific understanding of akathisia is currently very limited. While it is recognized as a common side effect of certain medications, doctors dont understand why or how it causes symptoms of restlessness. Some researchers suggest that it is caused by a chemical imbalance caused by the medication. It overstimulates areas of the brain, potentially resulting in the compulsion to move.   How Is Akathisia Recognized? Recognizing akathisia can be difficult, as it sometimes can appear to be a heightened version of your BPD symptoms. In some people, it makes them more anxious and nervous. In others, it is solely evidenced by the constant movement of the hands, feet or arms. In some rare cases, the akathisia has caused symptoms like rage, fear, nausea and psychotic symptoms.   The symptoms of akathisia often mimic or overlap with those of other illnesses, such as general anxiety disorder, depression or mania. In some cases, the sensation of this side effect is so odd that patients have difficulty explaining how theyre feeling, limiting the possibility for effective treatment.   Because of how easily akathisia can be confused with other illnesses or symptoms, a consultation with a clinician experienced in this side effect is usually recommended. He or she will use a tool such as the Barnes Akathisia Rating Scale to determine its presence  and severity.   How Is Akathisia Treated? Once akathisia has been diagnosed, it is typically treated by discontinuing the use of whatever antidepressant or antipsychotic medication you are on. Depending on your situation, your healthcare provider may opt to simply lessen your dose rather than discontinue its use completely or she may prescribe a new medication.   In some cases, your doctor may also prescribe a beta-blocker to treat the akathisia symptoms. Beta-blockers prevent certain receptors that encourage increased cardiac activity from being activated. They are often used to treat high blood pressure or heart issues. Beta-blockers have been found to decrease or eliminate symptoms of akathisia when taken daily, so they are an effective treatment option for some people. However, beta-blockers have their own potential side effects, so talk to your doctor about your options and what sort of signs to look out for.   Bottom Line While akathisia is a common side effect of medication used to treat BPD, it is treatable and manageable. If you experience akathisia and are tempted to stop taking your medicine because of it, talk to your doctor about what you are feeling and your concerns. He will help you identify a solution that will make you more comfortable while maintaining your path to recovery.

Comparability of the Floods How the Epic of Gilgamesh Relates and Conflicts the Bible - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1509 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2019/08/06 Category History Essay Level High school Topics: Gilgamesh Essay Did you like this example? When the clay tablets of the epic of Gilgamesh were first discovered and translated in 1872, scholars quickly noticed striking similarities between its narratives and those of the bible (Coogan 68). Specifically, the flood stories of these two pieces show the most clear resemblance to one another. In Gilgamesh, the main protagonist, Gilgamesh, seeks to become immortal. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Comparability of the Floods: How the Epic of Gilgamesh Relates and Conflicts the Bible" essay for you Create order In effort to do so, he then speaks to Utnapushtim who tells him about his experience with a great flood. Utnapushtim explains that a council of gods sent a flood that engulfed the whole earth. Before this, a specific god named Ea warned Utnapishtim of the flood and told him to construct a large boat. The boat was to have Utnapishtim, his family, and the seed of all living things as the survivors of the flood. The gods brought rain and the water surged for many days. When the water begins to subside, Utnapishtim sets loose a dove and later, a raven who finds land. The boat lands on Mount Nisir. Following the flood, the god named Ishtar makes a rainbow and places it in the sky as a promise that the gods would never bring another flood. In the biblical flood story, God notes that mankind has become evil so he decides to wipe out all flesh with a flood that will cover all of earth. God chose Noah to survive the flood and commands him to build a large boat with specific dimensions. God al so commands Noah to take his family along with him on the boat as well as animals of every kind. Noah does exactly as God says. The flood comes and surges for forty days and forty nights. When it subsides, the boat lands on Mount Ararat. After all the land is dry again, God forms a covenant with Noah to never bring another flood, and places a rainbow in the sky as a symbol of his promise. While these two stories may appear analogous, one must intently examine both the commonalities and the elements of discord between them in order to conclude the effect of Gilgamesh on the biblical flood story. One can easily identify the plot similarities in both the floods of Gilgamesh and the Bible, suggesting the two may be related. Before the floods begin in both stories, the heroes are characterized equivalently as being righteous. In Gilgamesh, Utnapushtim receives praise for his demeanor less directly, but is nonetheless admired by the gods and known to be selfless. Noah is also admired by God. Genesis reads, Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God (The Harper Collins Study Bible, Gen. 6.9-10). In the Bible, Noah is chosen to be the survivor specifically because of his good nature, much like Utnapushtim. Another major similarity is the global scale of both floods. The Bible says, the flood continued for forty days in the earth; and the waters increased and bore up the ark and it rose high above the earth (Gen. 7.17). In this verse and the following verses, the word earth is repeated several times to emphasize that the flood was all encompassing of the world. In Gilgamesh, the flood is referenced as being indistinguishable from the sky because it was so far reaching. Utnapushtim says, The wind blew, flood and tempest overwhelmed the land (Dalley 113, line 133). When Utnapushtim recalls the flood he, like the bible, recognizes it as surrounding everything on the planet. The two floods also have more obvious alignments such as the mere existence of a flood, the construction of a large boat, bringing all animals along on the boat, landing the ark on a mountain, and the creation of a rainbow. While these similarities are numerous and compelling, one must also consider the inconsistencies between the floods. The specific details of the Gilgamesh and biblical flood stories reveal several disagreements in narrative that establish them as separate entities. Contrary to Gilgamesh, at the very beginning of the biblical flood story, a motive for bringing on the flood is presented by God. Genesis reads, The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually(Gen. 6.5). Here, God justifies his intentions to wipe out mankind due to their corrupt behavior. On the contrary, in Gilgamesh, while the gods discuss a need to destroy everything on earth, they do not provide a reason to vindicate their idea. As the respective stories continue, another significant difference arises with respect to the means of announcing the flood. In Genesis 6:13, God clearly speaks directly to Noah when he first explains the flood and ark plan to him. Contrasting this, Utnapushtim does not learn about the flood from the god s themselves. Ea explains to the other gods, I just showed Atrahasis a dream, and thus he heard the secret of the gods (Dalley 115, line 141). In Gilgamesh, Atrahasis refers simply to the hero of the flood, i.e. Utnapushtim, who was never explicitly told the flood would come but was instead warned in a dream. Later in the stories, an additional critical difference is seen amongst the people who are instructed to be on the ark. God sees Noah as a righteous man, and instructs him to take only himself and his family. In Genesis he says, But I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons wives with you(Gen. 6.18). God intently explains the family members Noah shall have by his side on the ark, whereas in Gilgamesh, Utnapushtim does not receive specific instructions on who to bring, and thus he decides for himself. He says, I put on board the boat all my kith and kin/[]/[], all kinds of craftsmen (Dalley 112, line 128). Un like Noah, Utnapushtim is not seen as being someone with gifted lineage, therefore bringing craftsmen who are not his blood on the ark is not problematic. Finally, arguably the most fascinating difference in the floods involves the order in which birds are released to find land. The Epic of Gilgamesh details the order Utnapushtim send the birds; first he sends a dove that fails to find land, then a swallow that also fails, and lastly a raven that successfully saw the waters receding. Almost exactly opposite of the bird order in Gilgamesh, the Bible details Noahs releases in Genesis, saying At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark that he made and sent out the raven, [], Then he sent out the dove from him, [], but the dove found no place to set its foot, [], He waited another seven days, and again he sent out the dove from the ark; and the dove came back to him in the evening, and there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf (Gen. 8.6-11). Here, we see that r ather than releasing a raven last, Noah releases a raven first, and rather than releasing a dove first, he releases it last. Several other noticeable differences between the floods in Gilgamesh and the Bible also exist, but these previous examples are momentous when analyzing how the two stories may have developed. Because the Epic of Gilgamesh predates the Bible, and because of its likeness to the Bible, many scholars have suggested that the Epic may have been a basis for the biblical flood story. However, when examining both the similarities and the differences between the floods, one cannot conclude this to be true. The flood in Gilgamesh compares to the biblical flood in several ways, these similarities involve mainly the general plot of the floods. Most notably, the character of the hero, the global scale of the flood, the construction of a large boat, survival of all animals, landing on a mountain, and creation of a rainbow are all plot elements that can essentially be interchanged with one another between the stories. Despite these commonalities, the floods establish themselves as separate tales because of their differences. The compelling differences include but are not limited to: the reason for flooding, modes of announcement, the people on board, and the order of the bird releases. C onsidering these differences, clearly the biblical flood story was not extracted from the Epic of Gilgamesh. However, when considering their comparability, the floods certainly have a relationship with one another. One explanation to this, as told by Coogan, is that a common and vague flood story existed in the ancient Near East. Therefore, the biblical writers may have known of a flood story that the Gilgamesh writers also knew (Coogan 69). Another possible way Gilgamesh may have affected the biblical flood story is in the modern interpretations of it. Retellings of Noahs Ark often possess dramatized elements making them more similar to Gilgamesh. All in all, while the flood stories of both the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bible are comparable, their differences make it difficult to prove that Gilgamesh was a source for the bible and show that they likely separately developed out of a common, unknown flood story.

My Priorities Free Essays

Daniela Resendez Carolyn S. Smith English-1301-52 10/02/2012 My Priorities Women and men have different sets of priorities. Because men have always cared more about materialistic objects, their priorities are different from those of women. We will write a custom essay sample on My Priorities or any similar topic only for you Order Now Most women are more sentimental; therefore, their priorities are humanistic. Since I am a woman, my priorities are humanistic. My three main priorities in life are my family, God and my friends. My first priority is my family. I cannot imagine a person that has something or someone else as a first priority; basically, my family is the most important thing in my life. The love of the family is unconditional. I always feel support with them, and I know I will never feel homeless with them by my side. After all, they are the people with whom an individual will share the great moments of life. My second priority is God. I know that many people do not consider him a priority, maybe because they do not believe in something bigger than them. But, my belief is different, I am never going to be alone and I am always going to feel hope. Belief in God is not only by words, but by actions. An action that proves individual belief is going to church. I used to go to church since I was a child. It was there that I learned about the good and bad things in the world. Finally, My friends are my third priority. Like family, is impossible not to have our friends in our priorities. Because with them there is always that loyalty that unites us, we are always going to find a family in them. We can talk with our friends the way we talk with our mother or sister, and sometimes we can have more trust in them. We share funny moments, with our friends, which are very important in our lives. Because those moments are unforgettable, friends are a priority. We party with them the way we cannot with our family, thus we share the most important secrets. In conclusion, my priorities have always given me stability, hopefulness and happiness. My family, God and my friends are my three main priorities and that is how I have managed to accomplish my goals. How to cite My Priorities, Essay examples

Religion Essays (334 words) - Book Of Exodus, Shevat,

Religion Korey Madson Religion 100 Dr. Kantiok 11/17/99 Take Home Test Paper (2) What was Isaiah's message in the parable of the vineyard? V. 5: 1-2 My beloved had a Vineyard on a very fertile hill. He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; he expected it to yield grapes. What the message of this quote is that God has made a wondrous promiseland for the Israelites, and they in turn have destroyed it. God sent Isaiah to give the message to the Israelites (the wild grapes according to the verse) that God has given them a wonderful world and that they are destroying it. They are destroying it by injustice, oppression, violence, greed, debauchery/drunkenness, arrogance, perversion and cynicism. V. 5: 4 What more was there to do for my vineyard that I have done in it? When I expected it to yield grapes, why did it yield wild grapes. What this quote is saying is that God is very angry that the Israelites have not listened to him. He is questioning why they haven't obeyed him. God is saying that the Israelites punishment is going to be that he is not going to protect them any more. V. 5: 5 And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will remove its hedge, and it shall be devoured; I will break down the its wall, and it shall be trampled down. God has given up on the Israelites. He is no longer going to watch over them and protect them. Enemies will be allowed to come and defeat, leaving a path of death and destruction- symbolic roaring of the lion and the power of the sea. What results in the disobedience against God is that historically the promise land is attacked by the Assyrians during the 8th century BC, destroying the temple in Babylon and enslaving the Israelites. What is Plagiarism

What is Plagiarism Plagiarism is a growing problem in today’s world, thanks, no doubt, to the growing number of sources available to be plagiarized from. Now, we not only have books and magazines, television and movies, we also have the wide world of the internet. There is an unbelievable amount of stuff to be plagiarized, and many people are building entire websites, books and college theses entirely out of others thoughts. With that in mind, I thought I would answer some common questions about this: How close is too close for plagiarism? Plagiarism is the use of style or ideas that belong to others. Thus, if you take information from another source, even if it’s common knowledge, it is a very good idea to cite it. If you cannot remember or find the original source of information, then you should not use it in your work. The introduction of the term â€Å"language† into the definition makes for an even more complex idea. Quoting is acceptable as long as you include quotes, and paraphrasing is also acceptable, but taking any single section of two words together from a single source is probably not a good idea. Is it still considered plagiarism if I purchase the work from someone else (such as hiring an article writer for your blog, or purchasing a college thesis from a writer)? If the article comes with rights to you, then it is not plagiarism to use it. If it does not include rights, you absolutely cannot use it. More often than not, it will come with rights, but it is always best to ask exactly what you can and cannot do with it, since it may come back to haunt you. Also note that almost every college and high school will consider the same punishment for plagiarism as if they find you had your papers written for you, so make sure you know it back to front. Finally, it should stand to reason that you should always check the final document for plagiarism by looking through some of the sources that were chosen for the work. What are the punishments for being caught as a plagiarizer? If you’re plagiarizing in a college level course and caught, you will almost certainly fail the course, and you could be kicked out of the university all together. Degrees have also been revoked in cases of extreme plagiarism. If you are caught plagiarizing online, the punishment can include a lawsuit, but unfortunately, until now, only a small portion of the plagiarism is actually punished. Some cases are more complicated than others, particularly thanks to the development of RSS feeds, which by their nature, help to encourage people to reuse other content. Sometimes this is allowed by the authors, but most of the time it is not. To report online plagiarism, contact the ISP or Hosting company of the offender, and be prepared to offer significant amounts of proof that you are the original author. Is plagiarism the same thing as copyright infringement? No.   While they’re both bad, copyright infringement only overlaps plagiarism in rare circumstances where you plagiarize a copyrighted phrase.   The major difference between these two crimes (yes, crimes) is that plagiarism is where you take other’s content and claim that it’s your own.   Copyright infringement recognizes that it’s the work of others that you are attempting to use or profit from. Is it still plagiarism if I don’t intend it to be? Yes. Even if you don’t mean to, it’s still plagiarism. If someone finds your work to be too similar to their own, or a collection of others’ works, it can be considered plagiarism, and you can get in trouble for it. My best advice is to cite everything you possibly can, and to check your work with a sentence matching tool that compares your document to everything available online. While Copyscape is probably the #1 name on the internet, it’s a paid service, and I’ve always found Article Checker to be just as good, and perhaps a bit more flexible.

The Best Novel Writing Software of 2019 (Including 4 Free Programs)

The Best Novel Writing Software of 2019 (Including 4 Free Programs) The Best Novel Writing Software of 2019 So, you’ve just started writing a novel - which means you’re figuring things out as you go. You probably have a flock of Google Docs to wrangle, you’re always scribbling on napkins, and you have no idea where anything is. If this scenario sounds familiar, there’s one thing you need: some good ol’-fashioned (well, more like new-fashioned) novel writing software.Luckily for you, we’ve come up with this list of the best, most affordable pieces of novel writing software in 2019. All of these will not only keep you organized, but also inspire you to keep writing till the very last page. And best of all, some programs cost nothing at all! In the spirit of thriftiness, let's start with your options. Which writing software is best for you? Find out here! âÅ" Ã°Å¸â€˜ ¨Ã¢â‚¬ Ã°Å¸â€™ » Reedsy Book Editor💠° Price tag: Free software!âÅ"…  Features: Format as you write, export files that are ready for instant distribution, track changes, choose between "classic" or "romance" themesTaking into account the fact that we created the Reedsy Book Editor (RBE), we'll admit this novel writing software holds a special place in our hearts. But it's not just ownership pride - we genuinely believe this tool can add a lot of value and assistance to the process of writing a book. Some authors like a software with lots of bells and whistles - tools to help you research, structure, and outline. Other writers prefer completely minimal softwares - free from too many functionalities that mostly just distract. The RBE offers a happy medium between those two poles. While it definitely has more features than a blank piece of paper, its functions are super user-friendly and geared at one goal: allowing you to write and format a beautiful book. The RBE was built to be a book pro duction tool that typesets as you write, turning your manuscript into a fully-formatted book or ebook that meets industry standards - and that can compete with traditionally published books that have been professionally formatted. In the "Writing Mode," you can insert chapter breaks, scene breaks, images, and end notes. You can view previous versions of your manuscript, in case you removed a passage you now want to re-add. When you've reached the milestone of a completed book (congratulations!), you can export a distribution-ready EPUB, Mobi, or PDF file.Head here to learn more about using the Reedsy Book Editor.FastPencil 💠° Price tag: Free software! Finally, you can export your manuscript under â€Å"Publication Setup.† Keep in mind, though, that this file will download as a ZIP, and you’ll still need to convert it to an EPUB or MOBI before uploading to Amazon and/or other ebook retailers.yWriter 💠° Price tag: Free software!yWriter is particularly well-suited for the user who’s determined to keep not just their writing organized, but their work schedule as a whole: it records your daily work and tells you exactly how much you have to write to stay on track. Of course, writers who prefer a more loosey-goosey schedule may find this a bit controlling. But then again, if you’re an erratic writer who struggles to make progress because of your own lack of a routine, yWriter’s schedule function may be just the kick in the pants you need.FocusWriter💠°Ã‚  Price tag: Free software (you can tip, though)!âÅ"…  Features:  A beautiful blank page for you to write your novelFocusWriter isn’t novel-specific software per se, but it will help you rocket-boost your productivity. And of course, it's completely, permanently free - no limited-time trial, no payment with a warranty, no â€Å"premium upgrade† - so you may as well try it out!Th is software is exactly what it sounds like: it helps you laser-focus your efforts onto writing, and nothing else. You can still format your novel and check your word count/daily goals via offscreen tools, but FocusWriter’s default state is simply a blank page. You can also use full-screen mode so the only thing you see is the page in front of you - just like writing IRL.For authors who struggle to concentrate on their work more than anything else, FocusWriter is a dream come true. You might also consider combining it with an app blocker like Freedom, so you won’t be distracted by your phone either. id=attachment_14651 style="width: 685px" class="wp-caption aligncenter">Just like the good old days. From FocusWriterAnd that rounds off our section on free writing software! Now let's get into your options for paid programs.Scrivener💠°Ã‚  Price tag: $44.99 license fee, free 30-day trialâÅ"… Features:  Corkboard planner with virtual index cards, planning templates, integrated outlining system, customizable full-screen interface, split-screen function, import and export capabilitiesScrivener is one of the most storied (no pun intended) programs in use today, having been beta’d by NaNoWriMo writers over a decade ago. It markets itself as a â€Å"typewriter, ring-binder, and scrapbook all in one,† and it certainly comprises plenty of helpful features. But Scrivener’s biggest benefit is the freedom it enables: with so many modes of organization that you can arrange to your heart’s desire, the program lets you write however works best for you. With S crivener, you can do as much or as little planning as you want, so you don’t feel pressured to stay within certain constraints. You can shuffle your notes, outlines, and even chapters around wherever you need. It also has one of the most generous trial periods on offer - you can use it free for 30 days, but they don’t have to be consecutive. So if you only opened the Scrivener app every other day, your trial would technically last for 60 days rather than 30. (And when you do decide to pull the trigger, there are almost always discounts to be found.)The only potential catch with Scrivener is that some authors might find it a little too liberating; it doesn’t provide much novel-specific instruction, as some other programs do. But it’s still an excellent organizational tool with a great interface. Whether or not you choose Scrivener just depends on how much guidance you feel you need. A sample of Scrivener's "novel" template. From  ScrivenerNovel Factory💠° Price tag: $39.99 license fee, free 60-day trialâÅ"…  Features:  Comprehensive  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Roadmap† that walks you through the parts of a novel, straightforward layout with separate tabs for outline, characters, locations, etc., automatic progress trackingThis program is ideal for those who want a bit of hand-holding as they embark on their writing journey. Novel Factory helps writers gradually develop all the necessary components of a novel: first its skeleton, then characters, scenery, conflict, POV, and so on. And their guiding Roadmap does not skimp on details! Each section breaks down a specific element, and includes examples and exercises to demonstrate how they apply within a novel.Again, this piece of novel writing software works best for beginners, or anyone getting back into fiction writing after a very long hiatus. However, it’s also good for writers who know they need rigor ous structure to succeed -   Ã¢â‚¬Å"plotters† rather than â€Å"pantsers." Novel Factory equips you with everything you could ever want, structurally speaking, and filling in its templates should give you a very clear sense of where your novel is headed. The Novel Factory interface is pretty basic, and the templates do serve more as accompaniment to the Roadmap, rather than the other way around. But if you want to create a detailed blueprint for your novel, Novel Factory might be the software for you. It’s currently built for Windows, but Mac users can use extracting software, or the online Novel Factory app (found under "Desktop Version"  here). 📚⚙ Novel Factory and more: the best novel writing software of 2019 NewNovelist💠° Price tag: $29.99 license fee with 30-day warrantyâÅ"…  Features:  Customized templates for your novel’s genre and story, storyboard â€Å"visualizer† and chapter organizer, in-program search engine for research, animated readback, dictation, and textual analyticsNewNovelist software’s greatest strengths are processing and evaluation. You input what your book will be about, and NewNovelist generates a template based on that info. You start writing your novel, and NewNovelist analyzes the content for proportional word count and reading level. Indeed, of all the software on this list, NewNovelist probably has the most technically advanced features. It even lets you dictate your story when you get tired of typing! This program also includes the standard lineup of organizational assets you get with most novel writing software: outlining, storyboarding, character profiles, etc. But it’s the cool techy stuff that makes it stand out. Pe rhaps the most brilliant feature on here is the built-in search engine, which allows you to research as you write without leaving the platform - so that you (hopefully) don’t get too distracted from the task at hand.Though it may not be as sleek as other programs (mostly due to the sheer abundance of features), NewNovelist is an incredible tool for authors whose first priority is sound literary construction. For interested parties, note that NewNovelist is another Windows-only program - but again, there are ways around that if you don’t have a PC. If you want to dictate your novel instead of writing it, NewNovelist could be the software for you ðŸâ€" £ Novel Suite💠° Price tag: $12/month or $99/year subscription options, free 7-day trialâÅ"…  Features:  Novel board for outlining chapters and scenes, various detailed templates, character profile sheets, research and image library sectionsNovel Suite is one of the most streamlined programs out there for writers. Right off the bat, it has a color-coded welcome screen where you can easily navigate among the different modules: your novel board, word processor, writing templates page, character list, image library, and finally an area for your research. It’s perfect for writers who might be overwhelmed by more complex interfaces, but who still need to organize complex ideas. As for Novel Suite’s actual modules, its writing templates are where the program really shines. Novel Suite includes six templates, full of specific questions and thoughtful tips to help you plan your novel. For example, the â€Å"Starting Out† template encourages writers to think abo ut â€Å"the overall story journey† and â€Å"how to capture readers,† while still allowing for flexibility. The subscription-only model will naturally deter some writers from this program. But it's worth giving the free trial a go - you might find that the writing templates alone are worth the price. Especially for those who find themselves frustrated with typical templates and wanting something more nuanced, Novel Suite definitely delivers the goods. id=attachment_14649 style="width: 682px" class="wp-caption aligncenter">AutoCrit💠° Price tag:   $10/month for the â€Å"basic† plan, $30/month for â€Å"professional,† $80/month for â€Å"elite,† or $1 for a two-week trialâÅ"…  Features:  Depends on the plan, but â€Å"professional† is considered full-use - entails genre filtering, an array of editing options for pacing, dialogue, â€Å"strong writing,† word choice, repetition, and direct comparisons to bestselling worksWhile other pieces of software help you organize, develop, and even self-edit your story, they don’t include the in-depth editorial functions and services that AutoCrit does. This is the program to use if you already have a decent-sized draft of your novel, or if you’re a micromanaging kind of writer who likes to edit meticulously as you go.AutoCrit tests your work for all the factors above, and even individual elements within those factors. So for exam ple, after selecting â€Å"word choice† as your focus area, AutoCrit then allows you to narrow it down even more: do you want to check for generic descriptions? Improve your sentence starters? Work on personal phrases? You can achieve all that and more with AutoCrit. The program also boasts an appealing modern interface, and decent prices considering the range of editing possibilities. Some writers might be reluctant to shell out for an editing program - but those writers are probably blissfully unaware of how hard it is to self-edit. When you think of it that way, AutoCrit is an amazing service: it helps you edit your manuscript with the perspective of a professional, from the comfort of your own home. AutoCrit's software is just like another pair of 👀 on your novel WriteItNow💠° Price tag: Free demo (doesn’t save your work), $59.95 license feeâÅ"…  Features:  Front and back matter sections, chapter outlines, element sheets, wide range of editing tools  including readability score and repetition finderWriteItNow’s no-frills design facilitates that all-too-elusive endeavor for aspiring authors: to simply write. Its interface is pretty basic, with a toolbar at the top for quick access to any section of your planning and a sidebar to keep track of the actual writing. But don’t let its minimalism deceive you: WriteItNow also offers a variety of unique resources, especially for editing your novel. After you’ve written a chapter or two with WriteItNow, not only can you check things like spelling and word count, you can also run editorial â€Å"Critiques† via the Editor Tools tab. The program will point out any repetitive phrases, unnecessary â€Å"padding† words, and even clichà ©s you might hav e used - helping you polish your writing in the same way a third-party copy editor might.Another one-of-a-kind feature in WriteItNow is the automatic â€Å"Create Idea† function. You can select a character and a type of idea - in a maneuver reminiscent of choosing personality traits on The Sims - and the program will spit out creative prompts. It might be something you can integrate into your story, or a thought exercise to flesh out your characters. This program may also seem a bit on the pricey side - however, the license fee does cover both Mac and PC versions of the software. In any case, WriteItNow absolutely lives up to its name in terms of helping writers get their work done, and you can’t put a price on that. id=attachment_14650 style="width: 703px" class="wp-caption aligncenter">We told you it was like The Sims! For book formatting software, check out this post on Vellum.Remember...No novel writing software is actually magic - that is, none of it's going to write your novel for you. Industrial Revolution Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Industrial Revolution - Essay Example All this sudden change upgraded the living status of the British men, leading them to acquire an aristocratic kind of lifestyle. There was also an emergence of social classes in the society namely: wealthy class, middle class and poor class. As per (Goloboy ,15),â€Å"Most obviously, the industrial revolution transformed the nature of work. Increasingly, Americans worked for wages rather than within a family farm economy†. â€Å"The ‘industrial revolution’ was one of the three or four most important transformations in human history, and Britain was the first society to experience it†(Hoppit,2010).The industrialization began with cotton production which multiplied the productivity of cotton threads 10 times more than previous rate. The industrial revolution also increased the production of iron to a staggering level, which helped in the invention of electricity, trains, telephones, and radio... There was also an incredible amount of yield in agricultural sid e as the crops like turnips, clover and alfafa boomed. The industrial revolution also increased the population ratio as the food supply was immense along with financial system enrichment on government side â€Å"The industrial revolution was a process of household – based resource relocation that increased both the supply of marketed commodities and labor and the demand for market supplied goods† (Vries ,249-253).Interestingly, there was also a decline in the death rate of people as dangerous disease like plague and small pox started declining. Apart from bringing prosperity to American and Europe, industrial revolution also had its big share of drawbacks .The main issue was the emergence of industrial class, pollution, unemployment and child labor. 4 â€Å"Many people argued about the effects of the industrial revolution. Opponents point to the ugly over crowded towns, the ruin of vast areas of the country side, the quest for profit, and the employment of women and c hildren in dangerous jobs† (Ross, 34).There was mass emergence of large cities with a complex transportation system which led to higher amount of pollution in the environment. The industrial revolution declined quality of living of human beings from a natural angle and also depleted the natural resources to a great extent. In this 21st century, the globe has undergone a massive industrialization and in one way on technologically basis, we are far from excellence. Still, there are lots of countries which are in developing stage and in under developing stage. Development is good, but when it destroys our very natural environment, health and well being and humanity, then it can become our very own enemy. Now the super powers like America, England and Germany, have exceeded the limits of Industrialization and technological revolution and have depleted much natural resources of the planet. According to (Shapley), â€Å"The United States must be held accountable for its emissions, double the per capita level in Europe, and should follow the EU lead by committing to reducing its total greenhouse gas

Human Freedom and the News Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Human Freedom and the News - Assignment Example Existentialism proposes that human acts in their own capacity, therefore abortion should be a personal decision that should occur or not occur without external influence. On the other hand, libertarianism establishes that liberty is the ultimate political end, therefore the government and the state should not be existent so that they are able to regulate abortion. Existentialism and libertarianism are two philosophical theories that attempts to explain human behavior. These theories can be applied in understanding why some individuals prefer the pro-life option while others are inclined to the pro-choice. Existentialism has a historical perspective; it was developed by Jean-Paul Satre and was identified with a certain cultural group in the Europe. The theory upholds the view that the philosophical thoughts of an individual starts with the person himself (Webber, n.d). There is a common consensus among some of the theorists that it is an individual that provides a meaning to life. On the other hand, libertarianism maintains that liberty is should be the ultimate political end. The theory emphasizes on the fundamental political freedom, the ability to associate independently and liberty as an individual. The theory proposes an empirical liberty where an individual has the sole mandate of doing, as they will. The theory takes two perspectives, i n the strictest way, it is proposed that individuals own themselves fully and have the moral rights to have external things (Institute for Humane Studies, George Mason University, 2014). In his article, Why progressives should oppose abortion, Christopher Hale is of the idea that human beings have their individuality but the right to life should be considered. He is inclined to the existentialism view that, the overall existence of a human being is the most important thing. He explores the reasons why he thinks that conception is the beginning of life. He continues to argue

Importance of Effective Communication in Nursery Environment

Importance of Effective Communication in Nursery Environment Explain why it is important to maintain effective communication within the nursery environment mentioning the barriers that may be experienced by some staff members Maintaining effective communication? I believe that it is important to maintain effective communication as this is the channels in which the nursery will be run. Effective communication is a two way process which can be verbal or written. Managers must firstly know their staff and what type of communication works best for them, for example do they prefer a more direct approach or are they the sort of person who prefers a team briefing that allows them to communicate with other staff around them or do they prefer to have all the communication written down for them and then given a chance to write their reply. Barriers to communication could be caused by the environment as it could be too noisy or too much information to take in at any one time as a person can loose concentration if they are being over loaded with info or the actual language being used is too hard to understand, keep it simple which again comes back to knowing your staff or audience. Also the time of day should be considered before communicating with staff as they may have their own appointments to keep or other personal business to attend to so they could become distracted with the time and not hear what is being said to them. Noise within the nursery environment could also be a barrier as again if it is too noisy only partial communication may occur so the area in which the communication is to take place should also be considered. Sometimes the office itself can be the barrier because if you as the manager do not make yourself available but instead hide away in the office for the majority of the day then this would not help. Phones can also be a barrier as not everyone likes to talk on the phone but prefers a more personal approach but also things can be misheard on the phone. As well as these physical barriers there can be perceptual barriers too because you think the person doesn’t understand you before you even speak to them and that can come across in your body language as well. There are emotional barriers too which some people don’t like to speak out etc. As managers we must consider the cultural and language barriers as the society that we work and live in is much more culturally diverse than ever. A barrier to communication is also the manager’s inability to actually listen as well!!! To me the bottom line to effective communication is to know your staff on a personal level, know what makes them tick therefore you can adapt your style of communication to suit the individual staff member. Also to be approachable to your staff and to listen to verbal and non verbal communication Discuss the importance of the appraisal process for staff and managers and how it can be carried out The performance appraisal provides employees with the recognition of their work efforts. It shows that bosses are interested in the development of their staff and not just getting their ‘monies worth’ that it is more that just a job. The appraisal process for staff and managers is a period of time out from the daily tasks of the running of the nursery in order to focus on work related activities and to correct any existing problems and encourage better performance. Managers should make an appointment with the staff member at a time which suits both and there will be no distractions. A blank appraisal form should be issued to the staff member for them to complete and comment on how they have performed throughout the year, this is then discussed with the Manager. The Manager and staff member will then discuss the information written on the form and what areas need to be improved upon and agree on what training is required. It’s also a good time to discuss any other outstanding issues not necessarily related to the appraisal itself. When setting the goals, managers should be specific at what is to be achieved. The goals should be measured against what is to be achieved. Set a time frame in which to achieve the goal, make sure the time frame is realistic. The goals should also be relevant to the role in which the staff member is working. Make sure the goal that is being set has a purpose and not just for the sake of it. It is best to carry this out on the anniversary of when the staff member has joined and then goals can be set for the coming year. Managers should get behind the appraisal process and sell it to their staff. Explain the disciplinary and grievance procedure, paying particular attention to how the manager should conduct the process The policy documentation for this process should be made accessible for all staff. The processes are necessary to ensure that all staff are treated fairly and are protected. If there are good procedures in place and good communication then the risk of tribunals are minimised. If possible managers should try and resolve the issues first and a disciplinary and grievance procedure should be the last resort. A letter should be issued to the employee at least 72 hours in advance of the meeting. Additional staff should be present in the meeting to take notes. Time should be given for an appeal if necessary. All records, emails, telephone calls should be kept in order to act as a reference and evidence to what steps the manager has taken to try and resolve the issue from the beginning. A meeting should be set up to include additional staff for note taking. Managers should remain impartial and if necessary can call witnesses to strengthen the evidence. Enough time should be given in the meeting for the employee to put their case forward. Should new evidence come to light in the course of the meeting then it should be adjourned. When a decision is reached it should be given in writing and include information on the appeals process. The outcomes from the meeting can be no action, warning or dismissal. There can be a verbal warning administered, a first written warning or a final written warning. The informal grievance procedure should be displayed and available to all staff, to be honest early intervention limits the need for a disciplinary procedure. Evaluate the recruitment and selection process making reference to policies nurseries are required to hold The recruitment and selection process within the nursery setting is straight forward; vacancies should be advertised at the same time in various locations making sure under-represented groups within the community also have an equal chance of applying. Completed applications should be scored by the manager and another person either the deputy or the new employees line manager this gives a fairer approach to the scoring process. It is then up to the manager how many persons should be interviewed. The scoring sheets should be kept a minimum of three months after the application process should any unsuccessful applicants contact the manager for feedback it also shows transparency in the process. All persons involved in this process should be equal opportunity trained prior to the commencement of the process again this is a fairer why to carry out the process. Once the interviewing stage is completed and the new employee chosen then it is a good idea that prior to them starting they should be given a copy of the nursery policies and sign to say they have received them. They should also be made aware of the Health and Safety policy, fire safety and child protection issues and the policy on arrival and departure. It is important that they are made aware of whatever medication the children may be taking and what allergies they may have. This can be done in the staff induction morning and then they should spend the rest of their time shadowing a staff member who can show them the daily running of the nursery. This shadowing will ensure that the new employee sees first hand what is expected of them on a daily basis and what standards they are to achieve. I think this is a much better way of settling anyone in and they can take much more in during this â€Å"hands on† approach then they could just being told about it. It also gives the ne w employee a chance to ask questions which may not arise during interview. Barbara Gamble

Village cricket match

A Village Cricket Match It is an excerpt from A. G Macdonnel's humorous novel ‘England, their England'. The English society has been satirized in a light hearted manner especially what is known as ‘Englishness' , as seen from the eyes of a Scotsman. In this the author humorously describes a cricket match being played between men from England and men from Scotland in the village of Fordendan. The cricketers are petty businessmen or local shopkeepers. The story is presented in a mock epic style and ornate and bombastic language has been used to bring out this effect. The author has used humor as the main ingredient of the story. His description of the players, their style of playing, movements, and conduct is humorous. The story begins with the arrangements of Mr. Hodge who completed his tricky negotiations with the Fordendan caption. Just as the two players who were arranged to play for both sides went away in dismay, a motor car arrived containing not only Mr. Hodge's two defaulters but also a third gentlemen who swore stoutly that he had been invited by Mr. Hodge to play. Negotiations therefore had to be reopened. This funny arrangement at the beginning of the story underlines the streak of humor which will run throughout the story. The method of winning of winning the toss by Mr. Hodge is described in a humorous way. ‘Mr. Hodge having won the toss by a system of his own founded upon the differential calculus and Copernican theory†¦ ‘. The bowling end of the ground was so steep that at the end stood a fielder who saw nothing saw nothing of the game but the blacksmith walking back or running to bowl. It was only during the last few yards of his run when the blacksmith was visible to the batsman. The blacksmith ran up to bowl climbing the slope superbly like a ‘mettlesome combination of Venus and Vulcan Anadyomene'.
